About Us
Vista Bay is one of the premier holistic drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs in the country. Established in a small home in the hills of Santa Cruz, California in 1992, it has grown from 6 beds in a home to 3 full service alcohol and drug treatment facilities in California and servicing over 100 residential clients at a time. Last year, we celebrated our 1000th graduate of the program.
It is a fallacy that overcoming addiction can be done in 28 days. This concept was brought about once drug abuse and alcoholism were officially classified as “diseases”, thus bringing them into the field of medicine. This new change was implemented and what the main insurance companies at the time decided to allow for drug or alcohol related rehabilitation was, you guessed it, 28 days. Thus many people around the world saw an opportunity to open addiction rehabilitation programs that lasted 28 days.
Obviously, addiction is a serious condition for anyone to be in, but it is crazy to think that you can set a particular number of days it takes for someone to get well. Having a chemical dependency problem is not like a broken arm, it doesn’t automatically heal. It is a blend of physical, emotional, moral and psychological problems all mixed up into one. Everybody has different reasons for abusing drugs or alcohol and everyone needs the time to sort things out and move at their own pace.
At Vista Bay, our program is not time-based. Our program is also not a “quick-fix” and takes an average of 3-5 months to complete. It is very effective and extremely rewarding to not only remove the physical drugs and toxins from the body, but also realize the cause of what leads one to turn to using drugs or alcohol to “solve” their problems in the first place.
Our staff is motivated by the bright faces of our clients we see every week of graduation. These are faces that not long ago were pale, sickly and full of anger and sadness, but now shine bright with health and hope for the future.
